ALS Mechatronic specialise in the design, build and installation of bespoke factory automation systems, control systems, plastic container handling, robotics and vision systems.

Since our humble beginnings in 2002 from the spare room of my flat; ALS Controls (as we were then known) has grown steadily yet confidently, and is trusted globally by start-ups through to multinational powerhouses – ranging from dairies to pharmaceutical companies to help improve their efficiency and production capabilities with our state-of-the-art, bespoke manufacturing machinery, turnkey factory/plant automation lines including advanced robotics integration and, control systems.  Today we are headquartered in a 20,000 sq. ft. factory in Gloucestershire, UK, with our 18,000 sq. ft. QA and testing facility located in nearby Alcester and our North American sales office located in Amarillo, Texas.

Our central location with close airport links is paramount, enabling us to quickly deliver a first-class service to our extensive world-wide customers, who span many different industry sectors, including: food and beverage, plastics, dairy, packaged products, air filtration, waste to energy, pharmaceutical, processing, rigid container handling and incineration.

Andrew Steward

Andrew Steward

FOUNDER & MANAGING DIRECTOR

Andrew is an Electronics Engineer by trade with more than 30 years’ industry experience. He started his apprenticeship with a leak tester manufacturer, following a short stint with the company during a school work experience week. He later moved on to work for US conveyor and packaging machinery manufacturer Ideas In Motion, where he stayed until 2002, leaving to set up ALS Controls, now ALS Mechatronic.

SERVICES DIRECTOR

Chris joined ALS Mechatronic in April 2005. Over the years, Chris has been involved in a number of successful projects in the UK and across the globe and; likes nothing more than seeing customers automation expectations exceeded. Chris has a strong skill mix, which he continues to develop in: manufacturing, installation, commissioning, integration, software and management.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Laura is responsible for quality, HR, management reporting, business process and resource planning, marketing and PR. Laura joined ALS in November 2019 following an extensive career working predominantly for digital health and biotech companies. Manufacturing is a whole new world but Laura is enjoying the challenge and learning fast from a great team of people. And yes, she is married to the boss!

ENGINEERING DIRECTOR

Daniel is responsible for mechanical design and manufacturing at ALS, taking projects from concept through to installation. Daniel joined the company in October 2015, building on his extensive experience learnt across a variety of manufacturing industries. Daniel likes nothing more than to create something from nothing and thrives on each day offering a new challenge for him to find a solution to!

Joy Simpson

OFFICE MANAGER

Joy joined ALS Mechatronic in January 2012 and remains integral to the company’s smooth day-to-day operations. Joy turns her hand to most things administrative; from running the office, ordering goods, managing deliveries, through to; invoicing, accounts payable and banking. And, when she’s not doing all that, you’ll typically find her riding her horse or walking the dog!

Neil Lucas

SENIOR CONTROL SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Neil, having racked up 15 years’ experience, joined ALS Mechatronic in August 2016 as Control Engineer, responsible for writing new, innovative control software as well as making enhancements to existing and old systems using programmes from the likes of Siemens and Allen Bradley. Neil loves the inevitable problems that innovative engineering projects present and working out the right solution.

Phill Dowdeswell

CONTROLS ENGINEER/HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER

Phill is ALS’ longest standing employee, joining Andrew soon after the company’s inception in 2002. Phill wears a number of hats including controls engineering and health and safety. Phill’s 25+ years’ experience in the plastics/packaging industries enables him to help train and develop junior team members from raw apprentices to full engineers.
